Novel Mechanism of Action
- i-FACTOR™ bone graft is the only bone graft substitute that uses a unique anorganic bone mineral (ABM) and small peptide, P-15™, that acts as an attachment factor for specific integrins in osteogenic cells. This novel mehanism of action enhances the natural bone healing process resulting in safe, predictable bone formation at a fraction of the cost of conventional growth factors.
- P-15 is a synthetic fifteen amino acid peptide that mimics the cell-binding domain of Type I human collagen and is responsible for osteogenic cell attachment to Type 1 human collagen.
- Osteogenic cells bind to P-15 via α2β1 integrins. This cell-binding will facilitate the flow of mechanical and chemical information between cells and the extracellular matrix, which contributes to the production of specific growth factors, cytokines and bone morphogenic proteins (BMP’s).
- Natural bone healing occurs leading to fusion.
- Unlike many bone growth factors, ABM/P-15 will only stimulate a healing response in the presence of bone forming cells.
