James (Jim) Benedict, Ph.D., is the Vice President for Research and Development at Cerapedics, Inc.
Jim has worked 35+ years in applied research, preclinical research and product development for osteogenic products. His experience is as expansive as working on osteoinductive growth factors for orthopedic spine and dental devices to researching novel bisphosphonate compounds to control metabolic bone disorders. Jim’s research and development work in chemical synthesis of phosphonate compounds resulted in the creation and market offering of:
- Actonel® (residronate) for the treatment or prevention of osteoporosis
- Didronel® for the treatment of Paget’s disease
- Osteoscan® HDP for the radionuclear detection of skeletal pathologies
Jim has co-authored more than 60 journal articles and/or scientific exhibits. His professional work is reflected in 39 U.S. and foreign patents as well as six additional patent applications under review.
Jim has served on the FDA/Clinical/Industry advisory panel and has worked actively with the FDA to bring pharmaceutical and medical device products through the regulatory process.
Jim is our resident Professor; he enjoys teaching chemistry and the science of bone biology to anyone interested in learning.
